Break Through
As I believe that awareness is a muscle that needs constant practice, the way I practice and model it for others through my classes, the way I live and what I create, is to paint intuitively and then meditate on the images that show up on the canvas.
The colors, shapes and textures in the paintings provide a spiritually grounded way to see, focus, ponder and understand what I may miss living through the whirlwind of phenomena I encounter at each moment of my life. Contemplating what I created invites me to embrace, integrate and transform acquired mental constructs that do not nourish me.
Immersing myself in this image, I sensed that it was time for breaking through habits of betraying my values in an attempt to âfit inâ and to cease deceiving myself by relaying on beliefs or ârecipesâ I acquired from teachings that appeared to have integrity yet were misaligned with my intentions.
By using alcohol inks, a medium that is inherently fluid, I was able to depict the darknessâthe untruths, that were muting the heartâs voice, and to show the light of a new day coming through, ushering the Break Through I was seeking.
The bright gold dots popping out of the black shapes shine on the purpose of looking deeply into the darkest parts of ourselves; to see the gifts that an honest inner inquiry brings about, and an understanding of how to mine the gold that our incorrect perceptions offer. As the âsmokeâ clears out, the spiritual heart is able to pump more efficiently and express its voice more forcefully so that we cannot ignore its guiding wisdom.
The painting is a tool of self-inquiry. Contemplating it as in meditation, it teaches presence and alertness. It helps us to understand how our thoughts, beliefs and actions influence our lives. Looking into its color palette, and mindfully merging into its textures and shapes, may assist us in seeing our shortcomings as gifts.
When we view our regrets, our disappointments, our frustrations, our fears, and what we perceive as obstacles as gifts, we Break Through the spiritual closet and create space for who we truly are to emerge. We live our divine destiny and walk or unique path in the world.
